PRODUCTION GROUND TRUTH
What I Learned
The operational lessons, production disciplines, and verified returns that shaped my engineering doctrine.
Physical engineering teaches you very quickly that reality does not negotiate. If a reactor reaches overpressure, if a seal fails, or if a batch is contaminated, no amount of narrative fixes the outcome. You measure, you isolate the failure mode, and you fix the root cause.
His own words, spoken aloud. Somehow I just keep finding the strength, or rather the stubbornness, to keep going.
The Core Heuristics
- Silicon Proof Over Documentation: My favorite proof is the real hardware running the real thing. Docs and tests are great starting points, and seeing it run on the chip is the moment I love most. Measure execution time, resident memory, and token generation directly on physical hardware.
- Compile Close to the Hardware: Python and JavaScript are where a lot of builders start, and they got me started too. For Aien I chose to compile critical systems directly to native machine code, because I wanted every layer on my own machine to be something I could check.
- Zero Disk Secrets: I keep secrets out of plain config files, because a vault makes that easy. Keep credentials out of files and resolve them in volatile memory. The hardware-backed trust chain for this is still being qualified.
- Gratitude Moves Forward: The people who invested in you did so so that you would reach back and lift the next person up. Protect the team, build people up, and share what works.
